The Breakers of Long Beach – an assisted living facility in downtown
Long Beach, California – was found by a jury to be responsible for
a resident's spinal injury. As a result, the facility has been court-ordered
to pay around $400,000 in damages to the woman whose spinal cord was damages
in a fall while she was living at The Breakers.
According to court records, at least two other elder cases were filed against
The Breakers last year. One of the cases involved an elder man who died
of causes including an ulcerated laceration on his leg. Investigations
by the Department of Social Services concluded that the man did not receive
proper care before his death.

Elder neglect and abuse cases such as this are not as uncommon as one might
think. The Breakers of Long Beach is responsible for the care and supervision
of their assisted living residents and was found to have been negligent
in its duties. Such could be the case at any Los Angeles nursing home
or assisted living facility. If you have a loved one who is a resident
of an elder care facility, do not take their safety and well-being for
granted. Be aware of any signs of neglect or abuse and take immediate
action if your loved one has suffered unnecessary illness or injury.
